Solar Hot Water Systems
There are a number of different systems available, from a number of different manufacturers. Here at Inland Solar we deal with Rheem, and Edwards for Solar hot water systems.
Solar HWS Information
Determining the correct solar setup for your individual needs depends on a number of factors. Theses can include, but are not limited to how many bedrooms the house has, how many people are living in the house, the age of the residents, the location of the house, and the orientation of the house (I.E. Which way the roofing is faced).
One aspect of converting to Solar hot water is the initial outlay. This is higher than that for a conventional electric or gas HWS, however the long term benefits and savings far outstrip this, as the levels of sunlight through the year, particularly in the October to March period (encompassing summer) enable you, with Solar HWS, to have access to virtually free hot water. This equates to free hot water for half of the year, which has the potential to save you up to half in your hot water bill. For larger families, this can mean savings in excess of $500 per annum.
To further offset the cost of installing a solar HWS, most solar units are eligible for RECS. These are Renewable Energy Certificates. For detailed information about RECS, visit the Office of the Renewable Energy Regulator website. There is also 2 other rebates available one of which is $1000 offered by the federal government and the other $300 which is offered by the NSW government.
R.E.C.S
What RECS mean for the purchaser of a solar HWS, is that a rebate is offered on certain systems, provided the system meets certain criteria. The Criteria to determine eligibility can be viewed here.
RECS carry a monetary value, which varies regularly and needs to be checked at the time of purchase. When purchasing a solar HWS, RECS are handled according to which brand of unit you buy.
If you buy a Solar HWS, you receive the appropriate rebates sent out to you in the form of a cheque or directly deposited into your bank account. The rebate will be determined by the number of RECS by their value at the time of purchase- (Number of RECS x RECS Value) = Rebate

NSW & Federal Government Rebates
Due to the demand in power and rates going up all the time the NSW & Australian Governments have pitched in to make these systems more affordable to the customer. The federal government started the ball rolling by offering $1000 to anyone who installs a solar hot water, this is a means tested rebate so please view the criteria before determining you eligibility. This is a flat $1000 for any system install that meets all requirements.
The NSW government then decided they would like to push people in our state to going solar. They devised a system which is judged by the number of REC points the system has to what they will pay. The more efficient the system, the more RECS it will have, also the more the NSW rebate will be. The NSW government will pay $300 depending on how efficient the system is.
